Reaching across generations and professions, the Sustainable Mission campaign launched by Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara (YKAN) during 24 May-31 July 2021 collaborates with various partners who care about Indonesia's nature. This time, through the virtual event “Conservation Dialogue: Mangrove Family Day,” on Thursday (1/7), YKAN together with online shopping platform Blibli presented an interactive discussion about the importance of mangroves packaged in a fairy tale show.
The mastermind of the show was none other than Oom Samsudin. Yes, better known as Samsudin Fairy Tale Keliling, he has visited various regions in Indonesia, from Sumatra to West Nusa Tenggara. Through his fairy tales, he raises public awareness, from children to adults, about the importance of preserving the environment.
In this Conservation Dialogue, Oom Sam tells the story of Sofia, a little girl who is walking in the mangrove forest and meets new friends. There are estuarine crocodiles, storks, proboscis monkeys, and mangrove crabs. The story of Sofia and her friends also reminds us that humans are only part of an ecosystem. "We can't just think about our lives. There are many living things that need a place to live and breed,” he said.
As if you don't know it, you don't love it, the function and role of mangrove forests in life is important to be understood by all levels of society and started early. Indonesia is home to the world's largest mangrove forest, which stores 3.14 billion tonnes of carbon, which is equivalent to a third of the world's carbon stock in coastal areas.
This “Conservation Dialogue: Mangrove Family Day” is also the right moment during the children's holiday to get acquainted with the mangrove forest in a fun way. Participants can work on coloring sheets with pictures of mangrove ecosystems that can be downloaded during the registration process. Then, upload it to your Instragam account and tag @misilestari_nusantara and @ykan_id.
“Introducing care and love for nature needs to be implemented as early as possible and become part of character education in every family. Family is the closest line to give real examples of loving nature in everyday life. For example, sorting garbage at home and turning it into compost, using water wisely, and so on. Because in the end, protecting nature is our collective duty,” added Dino V. Prayoga, Associate Director of Development YKAN.
As one of the online shopping platforms in Indonesia, Blibli also plays an equally important role in the success of the Misi Lestari campaign. Blibli presents a special page for participants to register with a choice of family or individual categories. This collaboration also coincides with the 10th anniversary of Blibli, with the theme “10 Years With You” and consistently implementing sustainability programs in its business operations.
“Blibli has great concern for environmental sustainability which is realized through the Blibli Cinta Bumi campaign, where we invite customers to practice recycling, among other things. The collaboration with YKAN is an extension of Blibli's passion for environmental conservation. By being on our e-commerce platform, YKAN can reach participants and potential donors throughout Indonesia to make the campaign a success. This collaboration also shows the power of e-commerce in strengthening its positive impact on society and the environment," said Franky Oberto, Blibli's Senior Merchandising Manager.
The Misi Lestari Campaign, which will end on July 31, 2021, is part of the commemoration of World Mangrove Day which falls every July 26. Everyone can act for the Earth, just from home.
