Ading Kurniadi - Sea Turtle Conservationist in Derawan Islands, Berau, East Kalimantan

Ading Kurniadi is dedicated to saving sea turtles on Derawan Island from extinction. The Derawan Archipelago is a symbol of the Berau Regency and a vital turtle spawning ground that inspired Ading to take action. Ading has monitored the island's sea turtles almost nightly for over a decade. His routine involves identifying natural nests of turtle eggs and relocating them from natural nests to artificial nests or designated hatching sites.

Once the eggs hatch, Ading releases the turtle hatchlings on the shore. This approach, derived from Ading's extensive experience, has proven effective in mitigating sea turtle egg theft and contributing to the sustained population of sea turtles. Ading's efforts have convinced many residents to actively participate in sea turtle conservation.
