Known as a global expert in the forestry sector, Herlina is experienced in conserving tropical rainforest. Her rich experiences include community empowerment for forest conservation, sustainable forest management, and climate change mitigation. She has written at least 20 publications. Before joining YKAN, Herlina was a researcher at the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) for eight years. She received her Ph.D. from Monash University, Australia, where she learned the political ecology of customary forest (hutan adat) institutions in Central Sumatra, Indonesia.
