Through the Merdeka Curriculum, schools and teachers are now given the opportunity and freedom to teach themes and topics that are local and relevant to students' lives. One example is environmental education. Therefore, this book can serve as a reference for teachers in the Coastal District of OKI to introduce the environment of the students' living area, namely the mangrove forest.

This book is not just about mangrove forests. It's about the mangrove forests that line the coast of OKI, South Sumatra Province, Indonesia. It aims to introduce what mangrove forests are, their benefits, the impacts of their loss, and how to preserve them. What sets this book apart is its explicit focus on the condition of mangrove forests along the coast of OKI, from flora and fauna to the livelihoods of the communities along the coast. This local relevance makes it a valuable resource for anyone interested in the environment of the Coastal District of OKI.

This book was compiled by Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara (YKAN) as a reference source for 'Module P5 on Mangrove Ecosystems in the Coastal District of OKI', prepared by elementary school teachers in the District of OKI. With the assistance of the OKI District Education Office, BGP South Sumatra Province, BPMP South Sumatra Province, BSKAP Ministry of Education and Culture, as well as support from partners of the MERA Program (APP Sinar Mas, Temasek Foundation, and UBS Optimus Foundation), this module is an initiative to promote environmental education with a spirit of local relevance.
