Mangrove forests are natural fortresses that protect coastal areas from erosion, abrasion, and storms from the ocean. Besides that, the mangrove ecosystem also helps provide clean water and fresh air. People in Teluk Semanting Village, Derawan Island District, Berau Regency, East Kalimantan believe this.

The community of Teluk Semanting Village has agreed to protect their mangrove forest for the development of ecotourism. In the context of livelihood development, women's groups in Teluk Semanting Village have developed amplang and cracker products. The women's groups also learned to produce natural batik dyes from mangrove leaves and fruit extraction.
Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara with partners has supported the Berau Regency Government in sustainable management of the mangrove ecosystem program. Through the framework of the SIGAP program, women's group livelihood development and awareness-raising activities have been carried out from 2019 to June 2021.
