Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara (YKAN) collaborates with the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences at Padjadjaran University (UNPAD) to develop an Android-based Crew-Operated Data Recording System (CODRS) application, enhancing and accelerating fisheries data collection more efficiently and accurately. This collaboration was marked by an inaugural meeting at the UNPAD Campus in Bandung on Tuesday (4/8/2026).

The development of this application is a key component of a cooperative agreement aimed at advancing marine conservation science and technology through education, research, and collaboration. This partnership will transform the CODRS system, which previously relied on manual processes, into a digital Android-based platform that enables real-time recording of fish catch data in the field.

Since its initial development in 2014, CODRS has become one of YKAN’s key innovations in supporting data-driven fisheries management in Indonesia. The system provides information that the government, communities, businesses, and other stakeholders use to develop sustainable fisheries management policies.

The YKAN CODRS system is also an integral part of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) collaboration to support the National Fish Stock Assessment Commission (Komnas Kajiskan). Through fisheries data collection and analysis, YKAN supports assessments of deep-sea snapper and grouper stocks across 11 Indonesian Fisheries Management Areas (WPP). This information serves as a scientific foundation for formulating management recommendations and determining sustainable resource allocation.

Dr. Sunarto, S.Pi, M.Si, Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences at Padjadjaran University, stated that this collaboration represents the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, which consists of three pillars: education and teaching, research, and community service. In this context, the university contributes by presenting technological innovations that address the needs of marine resource management.

“This collaboration brings together the research and technology development strengths of the academic environment with YKAN’s field implementation experience. We hope that the Android-based CODRS application can become an adaptive and user-friendly solution capable of generating high-quality data to support Indonesia’s fisheries management,” he said.

The event also discussed the design of a system integrated with artificial intelligence and fisheries information.

Through the development of the Android-based CODRS application, YKAN and UNPAD expect fisheries data collection processes to become more effective. This initiative also aims to bolster the use of digital technology to support sustainable fishery resource management in Indonesia and expand the involvement of fishers as the primary data collectors in the field.

YKAN and UNPAD anticipate that the development of the Android-based CODRS application will enhance the efficiency of fisheries data collection processes. This initiative also aims to bolster the utilization of digital technology to support sustainable fishery resource management in Indonesia, while simultaneously expanding the involvement of fishers as the primary data collectors in the field.

Muhammad Ilman, YKAN’s Ocean Program Director, emphasized that the digital transformation of CODRS is a crucial step to improve the quality and speed of fisheries data collection.

“Data is the foundation of sustainable fisheries management. By developing an Android-based CODRS together with Padjadjaran University, we aim to accelerate data recording, improve data accuracy, and simplify information integration, so that it can support science-based decision-making by the government and stakeholders,” he concluded.
