Ramadan is always synonymous with sharing. Usually, we send parcels filled with cookies, fruits, or tea sets to family and friends. It feels warm, full of love, and reminds us that kindness is always more beautiful when shared.
But have you ever imagined that parcels are not just for people, but also for nature?
Mangroves: Nature’s Gift of Life
Mangroves are nature’s natural parcels sent to sustain our lives. In fact, Indonesia has the largest mangrove forests in the world, covering 3.44 million hectares — equivalent to 40 times the size of Jakarta[1]. The mangrove ecosystem holds extraordinary potential, including:
- Storing 3–5 times more carbon compared to tropical forests on land.
- Serving as a place for spawning, breeding, and feeding for marine life.
- Providing protection, food, and sources of income for coastal communities.
Unfortunately, over the last 30 years, more than 50% of Indonesia’s mangrove forests have been lost.
